Schimmel Siamese and Orientals

Hi, We are Kat and Graham and we are the proud owners of Vom Saton Marcham or Jag as we call him.

We live in Oxford and have been breeding pedigree Siamese and Oriental cats since 2002 and have a house full of the naughty little beggars. Although we are very much a cat household, we love our dogs. I had Sabre since she was a puppy, having rescued her from Battersea Dogs Home back in 1991. Sabre was a black Labrador cross and reached the age of 16, when unfortunately her legs started to give way and and at the end of May 2007, we realised that she was starting to suffer from lack of mobility and she was no longer the happy dog that I had spent the last 16 years of my life with.

We therefore took the decision to let her rest in peace and even as I write this I have tears in my eyes thinking of her absence. It was the right thing to do but never the less it was the hardest decision i have ever had to make in my life. She will always be with me and will never be forgotten or replaced.

The gap left by Sabre was not one we intended to fill for at least 6 -12 months, however after a few days it became apparent that our other dog, Shelley, was suffering from the loss of her companion. Shelley, had belonged to my mum since she was a puppy, but following my mum's divorce, she was unable to keep a dog at her new flat and we happily took Shelley in. She had already spent most of her upbringing with Sabre so she slotted in with her without any problems. Over the last 5 years they were quite very close and after Sabre's departure, Shelley stopped eating and was totally lost when she went out into the garden. At this point we decided that she needed a friend. I too, was suffering from not having a big dog around the house and after searching around on the net to see what breed of dog would really suit us we drew up a short list.

I decided that I had to have a dog that looked totally different to Sabre and seeing as both my wife and I had always loved Rottweilers we decided this would be the breed for us. My wife had previously owned a Rottie and I also had a friend who owned one so knew enough about the breed to move forward in our quest.

Fortunately we found a fantastic breeder based in Manchester who had a litter that had been born in June. We spoke at length to Robert of Vomsaton.co.uk and he was happy to let us home on of his adorable puppies. We expressed an interest in having a show quality dog and he picked out Jag as being the one for us.

The weeks leading up to us bringing Jag home were filled with excitement and eventually, on August 2nd, 2007, we collected our new man and he was on his way to a life in Oxford with our other furry family members.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Robert, for not only allowing us to give a home to such a wonderful puppy, but also for all his advice and help. We certainly feel that his breeder program is responsible for the excellent health, temperament and quality of Jag and we would have no reservations about recommending him if anyone ever wanted to give a home to a Rottweiler.

Our Diary entries will be updated often as we chronicle the life of our Jag.

September 2007

Wednesday 5th

Well it's been a month now since the Jagermeister has invaded our home, it seems like ages ago that we picked him up and we have to say that we are thrilled with how he has settled in and make us his slaves !.

He's growing up to be a big boy and as of today weighed in at 15 kg, twice the weight he was at last month and showing that he is growing to be a big strong boy

Jagermeister September 3rd 2007Jag's now started going for walks and with the field behind the house being an ideal place to start him off, he's been out there enjoying himself. He walked ok on the lead and will need a little bit of training in that department, but was just as good when we let him off, he just bounded off into the field and came straight back when we called him.

He's a very intelligent dog and is a fast learner. He knows that he only gets his food once he has sat down and stayed for a few seconds and waits until we give the all clear for him to wolf his food down. He's got lots of toys and in typical kid fashion, decides to get them all out and play with them at once.....does he ever put them back....NO chance, but it's something we are going to teach him, still not quite got the hang of "fetch" yet but we are sure he will.

He's also settled a bit more with Shelley, although she still doesn't want to play, but she will cuddle up with him and sleep sometimes.

He's moved away from baby rice in the morning now and can't wait to get tucked into his weetabix every morning. He's also been eating lots of chews and bones so he seems to be progressing just fine.

Now all we need to do is find out where he's hidding our shoes....4 days now I have been without one slipper...I'm not impressed! He's also got the main roon to himself now (with Shelley) as the cats have been booted out so that we can leave the patio door open for him to go in and out of the garden all day. He sits with me while I am on the computer and just dozes, until I move and it's his chance to have some play time. No wonder i never get any work done!
